Main Features of the Tourist Visa (Subclass 600):

Duration: Allows you to stay in Australia for up to 12 months, depending on the conditions of your application.

Purpose: Designed for tourists who wish to visit Australia for leisure, holidays, to visit friends and family, or to undertake studies of up to 12 weeks.

Multiple Entries*: In some cases, you may obtain a visa with permission for multiple entries during its validity, allowing you to enter and leave the country as needed.

Extension*: If you wish to extend your stay, it is possible to request a visa extension while in Australia, provided you meet the necessary conditions.

*This decision is at the sole discretion of the Department of Home Affairs.

Main Features of the Student Visa (subclass 500):

Duration: Allows you to stay in Australia for the duration of your course, up to a maximum of 5 years. The type and length of the course will determine the length of your stay.

Note: Primary school children enrolling in years 1–4 will generally only receive a student visa for a maximum period of 3 years.

Work: Allows you to work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session and unlimited hours during holiday periods.

Family Members: You may include family members in your application (spouse and unmarried children under 18 years of age).

Eligible Course: Must be enrolled in a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
