With a diverse natural landscape, MB has magnificent forests, crystalline lakes, rugged desert and vast prairie fields (plain covered with low vegetation). Manitoba is located in Central Canada and North America.

With more than 1.3 million inhabitants, it covers an area of 649,950 kilometers, bordered by the provinces of Ontario to the east and Saskatchewan to the west. Winnipeg is the capital and largest city in the province, which is also Manitoba's main commercial, industrial, financial and transportation hub. About 60% of the province's population lives within the Winnipeg metropolitan area.

Manitoba has a continental climate, ranging from humid continental in the south to subarctic in the north. Temperatures and precipitation generally decrease from south to north and increase from east to west. Because of its location in the center of the North American continent, Manitoba's climate is extreme and can be very hot and very cold depending on the region.

South of Manitoba, which includes the city of Winnipeg, the area is cold in winter, with high winds and frequent thunderstorms because of the open landscape. Summers are hot with a moderate duration.

Labor Market

It is estimated that by 2025 there will be 141,700 job openings, with 60,300 new openings (43%) due to economic growth and 81,400 (57%) replacement openings (for example, replacement of retirees). Of the total of these openings, it is expected that 56% will require higher education and 44% may not require the same education, but will have technical or demand-specific requirements.

Manitoba is an excellent choice to help you meet your study goals because it has an internationally recognized education system, governed by the provincial government, that offers quality public and private institutions.

There are five universities in Manitoba, and four of those universities are in Winnipeg: the University of Manitoba (the largest and most comprehensive), the University of Winnipeg (a school of arts focused primarily on undergraduates), the University of Saint-Boniface (the only French-speaking university of the province) and the Canadian Mennonite University (a religious institution).

The University of Saint-Boniface, founded in 1818 and now affiliated with the University of Manitoba, is the oldest university in western Canada. The only university outside of Winnipeg is in Brandon and is Brandon University, which opened in 1899.
